Bike Punctures

Unfortunately, having a bike puncture is a fact of life. This often occurs at the most inconvenient time, perhaps on your way to work when you are in a rush, or in the middle of nowhere, miles away from any public transport.
Luckily we have some tips on how to rectify the situation if you find yourself in it.

How to fix a bike puncture:

  • Take the wheel affected with the puncture off. If you haven’t got quick release then you will need a spanner to take it off.
  • Use 2 or 3 tyre leavers to leaver off the tyre. Just push them in to the gap between the tyre and the wheel. Just move it around the rim of the wheel until the whole rim on one side of the wheel is out of the wheel.
  • Take out the inner tube of the wheel. If you are at home then you can put water in a bowl or sink.
  • Start to pump up the inner tube and put the inner tube in the water until you see bubbles. If you don’t have any water, then see if you can feel or hear the air coming out of the tube.
  • Use a crayon to mark where the hole is.
  • Take the air out of the tube by pushing the valve back in on the inner tube.
  • Use a glueles patch kit to seal the hole. Keep it pressed down for a couple of minutes until it is stuck.
  • Put the inner tube back into the wheel. Then put the tyre back onto the rim of the wheel and use the tyre leavers if you need help with the last part.
  • Then pump up the tyre again, put the wheel back on the bike frame and away you go!
