Well, what an absolutely amazing Tour this has been this year. Congratulations to Cadel Evans, winning his first Tour after coming second on two previous occasions. A brilliant ride on the time trial saw him overcome the 57 second deficit to Andy Schlek to become the wearer of the yellow jersey before Paris.
Andy Schlek himself climbed superbly up the Galibier only a couple of days before, but it wasn’t enough of a time gap when Cadel is a great time trialist.
The real shame though, is that there was not a fourth step to the podium. Thomas Voeckler has always been an exciting cyclist, but having spent 10 days in the maillot jaune and battling incredibly bravely to try and keep it has made him a big folk hero to many fans.
In the green jersey battle, Mark Cavendish has finally triumphed. He won his fifth stage of this years tour and twentieth in total to ensure he keeps the green jersey. If there is any justice in the world he will be recognised in Britain as one of our best athletes.
